some people have been wanting me to give up my manicurist and where i get my nails done, and i am finally doing that! i am not a huge fan of acrylic nails anymore. besides the point they look fake as hell, the damage that they cause to your own nails is reason enough. plus, i had a terrible incident at SXSW '10 with my cherry blossom x adriana de la serva solar nails. can we say nightmare! blood and hello kitty bandaids were part of my outfit for nearly 2 months.
over the past two years, i've got into minx. minx is not paint, it's actually more like a sticker/foil heated under a lamp, then fitted to your own nail. if taken care of properly, they can last up to 2 weeks. the removal process is simple too. when i first started getting it done, i could only get them done in NY, because TX wasn't up on game (but what's new). the salon that i go to in NY is called valley nyc. as of recent, i am pretty sure TX finally took heed and there are a few salons around that offer this service.
in between time i usually just get a basic manicure and/or just paint my own. i have also applied a wanna-be version of minx on numerous occasions myself. they have versions at sephora in different patterns and colours that i have tried, but i found them to be too heavy. the latest wanna-be that i have found worked out OSSIM! i bought this version from sally's and it was like 3 bucks! after applying them and cutting the excess off, i put a clear top coat on to seal it. the top coat is crucial!
